• Question: Is being a scientist a full on job?

      Yes it can be, really it depends on what is going on. I work in Academia so there are times of the year when I’m a lot busier than others because I will also have teaching to do, grant writing to do etc. which I have to fit in with research. Nowadays though I’m really strict with myself and try to always leave work at 5:30 and that’s me done for the day, unless I really HAVE to be in work later (for example an important experiment took longer than I thought). It’s also very flexible, so if I have no teaching or meetings I can work anywhere, and at quieter times can work shorter days, so it all balances out.

      yeah it can be! Sometimes you spend a lot of time waiting around for experiments to finish, but you usually fill that time with lots of other things, like writing up experiments or fixing broken things or planning new experiments. I try and leave at 5:30 each day and do only 8 hours, but sometimes it just doesnt work like that. today i iwll stay a bit later so i can finish stuff off so i dont do it at the weekend.
