• Question: what country do you think is most scientific and why?

      I think France has got to be high on the list at the moment. President Macron is offering international scientists lots of money to come to France and do research to help reverse climate change. It’s a big investment so hopefully it will result in some really great science. He announced this just after Trump pulled out of the Paris climate accord.

      Yeah agree with Deborah, Macron is doing a real big push for scientists to move to France. We should be doing the same in the UK but Brexit is kind of turning scientists away from the UK. In terms of actual scientific output the UK is very very good, i think we have something like 8% of the scientific workforce but 18% of world leading published research (something like that anyway). The US is top on science output, then China, Japan, UK/Germany/France all roughly the same.
