At the moment I’m investigating a protein called COX-2 (you should google it and read the wikipedia page it’s quite good) as it is involved in colorectal cancer. What we think is that COX-2 is turned on and off by another protein and we are doing experiments to show that this is true. In fact i did an experiment on Thursday that shows it does, but we need to do some more to show that we aren’t seeing it COX-2 be turned off/on by a different protein. Hopefully we will finish these experiments soon and then we can publish the paper so other scientists can read it and then use it to inform their experiments.
Our experiments are looking promising yeah! We have found what we expected based on the biology we understand, we just need to show that it is the same for different types of colorectal cancer to show that it is repeatable, and then we can try to publish the work! But, i did have my experiments on Tuesday fail because the cells we were using didn’t produce COX-2 so we need to spend some time thinking about how we combat this problem next week.
