Because we are putting more and more greenhouse gases into the environment. The greenhouse gases act just like a greenhouse and insulate the earth and stop the heat from the sun from escaping into space. Over time this means the planet starts to warm up, but it also means that we have lots of new weather phenomena that we didnt have before, like lots lots more tornados.
